As much as I detest cruelty to animals and certainly what Vick did qualifies as such in an extreme fashion it does not warrant the kind of outright hysteria being fueled by the politically correct liberal sports media. I wish we would have seen the same type of reaction to the millions of innocent babies that have been killed in the womb since the 1973 Roe vs Wade decision, or the murder that occurred in the Ray Lewis case but the silence from the left on that matter is breath taking. Human beings were created in the image of God and when they exist in the womb they are already full grown human beings in god’s eyes and He sees all the potential they have to lead a life that is pleasing to Him.. Animals are not superior or even equal to man in the eyes of God but come under the stewardship of man. (Read the book of Genesis) Some animals need to be hunted and killed such as bobcats, coyotes, and mountain lions that attack joggers in California, and killer pit bulls that rip babies apart no matter how they arrived at that state. Vick should be penalized in some way, punished, fined, and restrained by local law enforcement from continuing such practices including dog fighting and cock fighting which has existed in the south for many many years as well, but sending him to prison for 18 months to 5 years and denying him a right to resume his livelihood is way ….way out of perspective in the opinion of this writer. Just imagine for a moment that some moron in a nearby rural community (who wasn't a celebrity) was abusing his animals and/or using them in some type of illegal gambling operation. If you're like most people you'd probably expect local law enforcement to have his operation shut down and have charges brought against him, but I doubt you would expect him to be carted off to prison for 5 years like the judge in the Vivk case said was possible. In fact the normal penalty for such behavior is a suspended sentence. So lets get real people and lighten up.
